The Sanalitro Journal – #014

As we reach the midpoint of the spring legislative session, I want to take a moment to update you on the work I’m doing to get Illinois back on the right track. From putting together a focused legislative agenda to advancing a bill that would bring back our iconic license plates, I’ve been working hard to push common-sense solutions. I’ve also spoken out against the misplaced priorities coming out of Springfield and continue to call for meaningful tax relief—starting with eliminating state taxes on tips and overtime pay.

There’s still plenty of work to do, but I remain committed to fighting for working families and restoring pride in our state.

Working together is how we can make a difference for everyone who calls Illinois home.

– Jennifer Sanalitro | State Representative

Rep. Sanalitro’s Legislative Agenda Supports Seniors, Students, and Working Families

ILLINOIS – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro’s(R-Hanover Park) legislative agenda for her 2nd term in the 104th General Assembly is aimed at reducing costs for Illinois families and workers, protecting victims, and improving access to voting and higher education.

Rep. Sanalitro’s legislative package includes:

Property Tax Relief for Seniors: One proposal (HB3580) increases the income cap for the low-income senior freeze to $75,000 annually and separate legislation (HB1906) creates a school district levy exemption for seniors without students attending school in the district. Both proposals seek to ease the burden of Illinois’ skyrocketing property taxes.

Extended Early Voting Hours: This bill (HB1901) extends the hours for early voting at permanent polling places. Instead of closing in the late afternoon, polling places would stay open later on weekdays—until 7:00 p.m. The bill attempts to ensure all voters have the opportunity to cast their ballots without significantly compromising their work schedules.

Sales Tax Holiday for Back-to-School Supplies: A measure (HB1905) that exempts school supplies purchased by parents and guardians from sales tax during back-to-school time. The proposal seeks to reduce costs and ensure all students have the tools they need to succeed.

Protections for Human Trafficking Victims: A bill (HB1903) that seeks to allow trafficking survivors to obtain orders of protection against their traffickers. This change would give victims a crucial legal mechanism to protect themselves from further harm.

Preserving Night Classes at Public Colleges: A resolution (HR90) that emphasizes the importance of night classes and programs at Illinois public colleges and universities. The resolution’s goal is to ensure opportunities for students balancing work and family obligations.

“These proposals are about putting Illinois first,” said Rep. Sanalitro. “Whether it’s helping seniors stay in their homes, making school supplies more affordable, or protecting victims of human trafficking, this agenda addresses the challenges Illinoisans face every day.”

Rep. Sanalitro Sponsors Bill to Bring Back Iconic License Plates

SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) is working to give Illinois drivers a nostalgic option for their vehicle license plates. She has sponsored House Bill 3391, which would allow the Secretary of State to issue retro-style license plates modeled after the iconic design used between 1983 and 2001.

The bill passed through committee and awaits further legislative action on the House Floor. Read more here.

Rep. Sanalitro Slams Lawmakers’ Misplaced Priorities; Calls for Real Tax Relief for Illinois Families

ILLINOIS – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro joined House Republican lawmakers for a press conference at the Capitol to highlight the misplaced priorities of the House Democrat majority. With the state facing a $737 million budget shortfall for FY26, Assistant Minority Leader C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Murrayville), State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park), and State Representative Bill Hauter (R-Morton) took aim at recent Democrat-backed bills that fail to address Illinois’ biggest fiscal challenges.

She highlighted that one of the most pressing issues she hears from constituents is frustration with Illinois’ broken tax system, yet instead of addressing it, Democrats continue pushing reckless spending and tax hikes.

“Illinois families already face the highest state and local tax burden in the nation, yet the Governor has now proposed the largest budget in state history—$55.2 billion,” said Sanalitro. “This massive spending plan won’t fix our tax system. It will only make things worse for hardworking families and businesses.”

Instead of working to ease the tax burden, Sanalitro noted that Democrats are prioritizing radical and frivolous policies, including:

  • A bill to legalize prostitution.
  • A bill to give judges discretion in cases of first-degree murder for offenders under 21.
  • A ban on grocery bags.
  • Price restrictions on water bottles.
  • Special protections for skunk and raccoon rehabilitation.

Sign Rep. Sanalitro’s Petition to End Taxes on Tips & Overtime

ILLINOIS – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) has launched a petition to continue her efforts to end taxes on tips and overtime pay.

The two related pieces of legislation would lighten the tax burden on workers and allow them to keep more of their hard earned income. Sanalitro’s HB1898 creates an income tax deduction for gratuities and her HB1899 creates an income tax deduction for overtime compensation.

“Hardworking Illinoisans deserve a break. Whether it’s through earning tips or putting in extra hours, the government shouldn’t be taking more of the hard-earned money individuals work so hard for.” said Sanalitro. “These bills fairly let workers keep more of what they earn and stop the state from cashing in on others’ hard work. No more taxes on tips or overtime!” concluded Sanalitro.

Rep. Sanalitro Calls for Action to Combat Human Trafficking

ILLINOIS – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) is pushing for stronger laws to fight human trafficking in Illinois while emphasizing that this crisis is happening in communities across the state.

“Human trafficking is not just a distant issue—it’s happening in our own neighborhoods,” said Rep. Sanalitro. “Traffickers prey on vulnerable individuals—especially minors—using force, fraud, and coercion to exploit them.”

“Illinois’ central location and extensive transportation networks, including major airports and highways, make it a hub for trafficking activity,” said Sanalitro. “Knowing this, we cannot turn a blind eye.”
