SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) issued the following statement after State Representative Carol Ammons was federally indicted Tuesday on charges including wire fraud, making a false statement to the FBI, and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
“These allegations against Representative Ammons are extremely serious and deeply damaging to the public’s trust.”
“For years, I have raised concerns about the lack of oversight surrounding member initiative dollars and unvetted grant money. Under Governor Pritzker’s budgets, certain Democratic lawmakers are handed taxpayer-funded grants for local projects with minimal accountability. These dollars are too often used to reward political loyalty and fund pet projects instead of being handled through a transparent and fair process.”
“The federal indictment against Representative Ammons alleges that campaign funds and state grant dollars were used for personal and family financial benefit. If true, this is exactly why Illinois must end member initiative funding immediately and permanently.”
“Taxpayers should never have to wonder whether their money is being used to serve the public or enrich politicians. Public officials must be held to the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and transparency.”
