Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce Legislative Breakfast

BLOOMINGDALE – It was great joining the Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce at their annual Legislative Update and sharing what happened in Springfield this Spring.

Here are some of the priorities I fought for this year:

  • ✅ Eliminating Illinois’ gas tax increase
  • ✅ Ending state taxes on tips and overtime pay
  • ✅ Protecting local zoning control by stopping the Governor’s BUILD Act
  • ✅ Restoring the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF) to 10%
  • ✅ Providing meaningful property tax relief and stronger taxpayer protections
  • ✅ Creating a sales tax holiday for back-to-school supplies

Some important wins this year included:

  • 🏆 Being named ABATE of Illinois’ 2026 State Representative of the Year for my work on roadway safety.
  • 🏛️ Successfully helping defeat the Governor’s BUILD Act, protecting local communities’ ability to make their own zoning decisions… for now.
  • 💰 Preventing cuts to state funding for local governments and critical services.
  • 🎒 Securing a Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday during the second week of August to help families save money.

I was also proud to support and pass legislation that:

  • ✔️ Expands ovarian cancer screening access – HB4203
  • ✔️ Provides additional support for individuals with autism and their families – HB4472 & HB5225
  • ✔️ Strengthens anti-grooming laws – HB4534
  • ✔️ Requires CPR-certified staff in daycares – HB2190
  • ✔️ Improves utility charge transparency – HB5524
  • ✔️ Enhances resources through the Missing Person Registry – SB2949

While we achieved several important victories, there is still more work to do. Illinois families continue to face the nation’s highest property taxes, increasing costs at the pump, and taxes on tips and overtime pay that should be eliminated. I will continue fighting for real tax relief and policies that make Illinois more affordable for working families.

Thank you to the Bloomingdale Chamber for hosting today’s discussion and to everyone who attended and shared their thoughts.
