Itasca, IL – Illinois State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Bloomingdale) expresses disappointment over yesterday’s approval of a major rail merger deal between Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern railways. The decision is expected to bring more freight trains through parts of the Chicago area, and in particular Illinois’ 48th House District, which she represents.
Representative Sanalitro is deeply concerned about the safety of her constituents and the impact this merger will have on their daily lives. “The decision to approve this merger is disappointing,” said Rep. Sanalitro. “The increased frequency of freight trains poses risks to our communities and threatens emergency response times from first responders who may find their paths blocked by trains at road crossings.”
Rep. Sanalitro continued, “The effects of this merger are expected to reverberate throughout communities in the 48th District, with the number of freight trains projected to reach eight or more per day. I am determined to stand with members of the Illinois Congressional delegation in outspoken disappointment in the approval of this merger.”
Representative Sanalitro remains fully committed to working with members of Congress and other levels of government to monitor and lessen the impact this merger has on her constituents and neighbors.
Rep. Sanalitro is the State Representative for House District 48, which includes the communities of Addison, Bensenville, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Itasca, Medinah, Roselle, Schaumburg, and Wood Dale in suburban DuPage and Cook counties.
