Property Tax Fallout

ILLINOIS – State Rep. Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) said in a Springfield press conference this week that Illinois’ broken property tax system is hurting families, seniors, and small businesses across our state.

She outlined her efforts to work with lawmakers to bring real property tax relief and a comprehensive plan that tackles the root causes of high taxes while protecting taxpayers from unintended consequences.

Here are some of the proposals Rep. Sanalitro and her fellow lawmakers advancing before Session adjourns on May 31st.

👵 HB 1906 (Sanalitro) – Creates a senior citizens homestead school levy exemption to protect seniors without kids in school property

🏠 HB 9 (Ugaste) – Provides direct property tax relief through state grants for school districts.

🏫 HB 5611 (Weaver) – Creates a property tax relief grant program for school districts beginning in Fiscal Year 2030 through the Education Property Tax Relief Fund.

🗳️ HB 2543 (Sosnowski) – Strengthens taxpayer protections by requiring taxing bodies to seek voter approval before increasing certain taxes.

📋 HB 1024 (Cabello) – Adds transparency and accountability by requiring sunsets for tax referenda.

📢 HB 5550 (Fritts) – Improves Truth in Taxation laws by increasing notice requirements for proposed tax increases.

Illinois families deserve a fairer system that keeps people in their homes, supports local businesses, and restores trust in government.

As a lawmaker, Rep. Jennifer Sanalitro remains committed to delivering meaningful tax relief.
