SPRINGFIELD, IL – A bill sponsored by State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) to give Illinois drivers a nostalgic license plate option has officially passed the Illinois House of Representatives and now awaits further consideration in the Senate.
House Bill 3391 would allow the Secretary of State to issue vehicle license plates modeled after the retro design used in Illinois between 1983 and 2001. The plates would be available for an additional fee of $40 for initial issuance and $27 for annual renewal, with proceeds going to support the ongoing maintenance of Illinois’ vehicle services.
“Many Illinois drivers remember these classic plates, and this bill gives them the choice to bring that style back,” said Rep. Sanalitro. “It’s a fun way to celebrate our state’s history while giving drivers more options.”
HB3391 received bipartisan support on the House floor and reflects growing interest from Illinois residents who want to combine a sense of nostalgia with their civic pride.
The bill now moves to the Illinois Senate for further action. Click here for full video.
