DuPage County, IL – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) released the following statement in response to recent reporting about House Speaker Chris Welch’s handling of the sexual harassment allegations against former State Representative Harry Benton.
“As a mother, I cannot imagine learning that my daughter was sexually harassed at work, only to have leadership delay action, withhold key information, and keep the public in the dark. I would be furious.
“For years, Illinois Democrats have told us to ‘believe all women.’ But when a woman came forward with allegations against one of their own, that principle suddenly seemed to disappear.
“After years of corruption scandals and broken public trust, the Illinois General Assembly and our state’s political leaders need to get their acts together. Protecting insiders and withholding the truth only reinforces the culture of corruption Illinoisans are tired of.”
Sanalitro says she will continue to work with the Illinois House Republicans in advancing much needed legislative ethics and transparency reforms through the General Assembly.
