ILLINOIS – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) released a Special Property Tax Address, highlighting her concerns with Illinois’ outdated and inefficient property tax structure and the growing burden it places on local families.
In her address, Rep. Sanalitro shared stories from across Illinois’ 48th District that reflect the real-life impact of rising property taxes. From young families forced to cut back on activities for their children, to seniors worried about being priced out of homes they have lived in for decades, the message is clear: property taxes are changing how people live.
“Property taxes are the number one financial burden facing families in our area,” Sanalitro said. “It’s not just another bill to pay—it’s changing how people live their lives.”
Rep. Sanalitro also raised concerns regarding rising costs across the board, including higher insurance premiums, prescription drug prices, and energy bills, warning that policies coming out of Springfield are adding to the financial strain instead of providing relief.
“Instead of real relief, we’re seeing proposals that expand government control over insurance, over medications, over energy, and those costs will ultimately be passed on to you.” she said.
In an attempt to reform Illinois property tax structure, Rep. Sanalitro has introduced legislation aimed at delivering real, practical property tax relief. Her proposal includes tax relief grants for school districts and a school levy exemption for seniors without children currently enrolled in school.
“These are common sense solutions designed to ease the burden on homeowners, especially seniors and working families,” Sanalitro said. “People shouldn’t have to leave their homes or take on extra jobs just to afford their property tax bill.”
