Rep. Jennifer Sanalitro Sponsors Bill to Enhance Special Education Services in Illinois School Districts

ILLINOIS – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) has co-sponsored legislation that would create the Local Advisory Committees on Special Education Act. The legislation, House Bill 1106, allows a school district or regional cooperative that provides special education services to establish a Local Advisory Committee if more than three parents or guardians of students receiving those services request one.

Rep. Sanalitro said: “I support giving parents a stronger voice in their child’s education, especially when it comes to special education services. This legislation allows parents and guardians to come together through a local advisory committee to share feedback and work directly with their school district.

“If families are asking for a seat at the table, they should have one. This legislation effectively creates a clear structure for local advisory committees that will improve communication, increase transparency, and help ensure students with special needs are receiving the support they deserve.”

Sanalitro concluded: “Parents know their children best, and their input is critical to building a special education system that works for every family.”
