Rep. Sanalitro Joins Lawsuit to Hold Illinois Lawmakers Accountable

ILLINOIS – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) joined fellow Republican lawmakers in filing a lawsuit to enforce the Illinois Constitution’s Third Reading Rule after Senate Bill 328 was passed without following the proper legislative process.

“Democrat lawmakers continue to use their supermajority to rush major bills through the General Assembly without proper debate or review,” said Rep. Sanalitro. “This lawsuit is about bringing transparency to state government and protecting the integrity of the lawmaking process.”

The Illinois Constitution requires that all bills be read by title on three separate days in each chamber — a process designed to ensure lawmakers and the public have time to understand legislation before it becomes law. According to the lawsuit, Senate Bill 328 violated this requirement when recently passed the final day of the 2025 Legislative Session.

“This lawsuit is about defending Illinoisans from sloppy government and bad public policy,” added Sanalitro. “I am proud to stand up with my fellow Republican lawmakers and say enough is enough.”

Republicans argue Senate Bill 328 will open the door to increased legal abuse and create burdens for job creators across the state.

The Republican lawsuit outlines the blatant disregard for the Illinois Constitution specifically for Senate Bill 328, which passed despite the legislative process not being followed correctly. The bill creates imminent harm for Illinoisans by increasing the legal process to increased abuse by trial lawyers, and job creators across Illinois strongly oppose it.
