SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) is speaking out after Illinois Democrats passed the largest budget in state history—totaling $55.2 billion—nearly $2 billion more than last year and loaded with new taxes.
“This budget grows government, hikes taxes, and leaves working families behind,” said Sanalitro. “It’s a massive increase in spending with zero relief for seniors, small businesses, or parents trying to make ends meet.”
Sanalitro criticized the budget for prioritizing pork projects, pay raises for politicians, and funding for programs that exclude veterans and vulnerable communities—while ignoring real solutions like property tax relief.
In response to the growing burden on working families, Rep. Sanalitro introduced legislation to eliminate taxes on tips and overtime pay—common-sense proposals that would help everyday Illinoisans keep more of what they earn. “Unfortunately, those bills never even received a hearing. Meanwhile, this bloated budget sailed through with no accountability,” she said.
“We had a plan to cut costs, grow our economy, and avoid raising taxes. But once again, House Republicans were shut out,” said Sanalitro. “This is reckless, unsustainable, and exactly why Illinois feels upside down.”
Rep. Sanalitro urges constituents to voice their concerns by contacting her office at [email protected].
