SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) is proud to announce the unanimous House passage of SB2075, a bill she sponsored to modernize and expand Illinois’ motorcycle safety education system. The measure passed with strong bipartisan support on a vote of 114-0.
“Every Illinoisan should be able to access high-quality motorcycle safety training no matter where they live,” said Sanalitro. “This bill improves access, accountability, and safety for riders statewide.”
SB2075 updates the Cycle Rider Safety Training Program by:
- Expanding the types of organizations that can offer training, including nonprofits, colleges, and community groups.
- Requiring the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to publicly seek applications from qualified course providers across the state.
- Ensuring affordability by refunding course fees upon successful completion.
- Protecting workers’ rights and preventing conflicts of interest by restricting who can provide courses.
“This legislation reflects thoughtful collaboration with safety advocates like ABATE and has earned a neutral stance from IDOT,” added Sanalitro. “It’s a smart way to promote safety while being responsible with taxpayer dollars.”
