Rep. Sanalitro: “Service Tax is a Cash Grab”

SPRINGFIELD – As state budget negotiations continue in Springfield, State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) is calling out a new service tax proposal that would hit working families and small businesses across Illinois.

“We don’t even have enough money to cover all the state’s spending, and instead of cutting waste, the answer being pushed – like always – is more taxes,” said Rep. Sanalitro.

The proposal would tax more than 80 everyday services – including haircuts, pet grooming, car repairs, lawn care, dry cleaning, streaming services, and more.

“This hurts working families, seniors, and small businesses the most,” Sanalitro said. “A single mom hires a repairman for a broken dishwasher – now gets taxed. An elderly couple pays for lawn care – now gets taxed. A young person saving for their first home goes for a haircut – now gets taxed.”

Sanalitro added: “I would go as far to say that service-based small business owners – and their customers – are being targeted by this proposal. Let’s be honest: this isn’t a fix. It’s a cash grab stick-up and the taxpayers are the ones about to get robbed – AGAIN.”

She is urging lawmakers to reject the service tax hike and instead focus on cutting waste and making responsible choices: “Let’s put taxpayers first, stop growing government, and start defending the people we represent. They demand it.”
