DUPAGE COUNTY – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) has filed two pieces of legislation to lighten the tax burden on workers and allow them to keep more of their hard earned income. The two sister proposals work similarly, with HB1898 creating an income tax deduction for gratuities and HB1899 creating an income tax deduction for overtime compensation.
“Hardworking Illinoisans deserve a break. Whether it’s through earning tips or putting in extra hours, the government shouldn’t be taking more of the hard-earned money individuals work so hard for.” said Sanalitro. “These bills fairly let workers keep more of what they earn and stop the state from cashing in on others’ hard work. No more taxes on tips or overtime!” concluded Sanalitro.
The legislation was filed in response to recent headlines that call for the same policy to be implemented at the federal level.
Both bills await their committee assignments before seeing further debate in the 104th General Assembly.
