SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) has introduced legislation to provide greater protections for victims of human trafficking. HB1903 would allow survivors to obtain orders of protection against their traffickers and offer them a vital legal tool to shield them from further harm.
“Human trafficking victims face unimaginable challenges, and we must do everything we can to protect them,” said Rep. Sanalitro. “This legislation gives survivors the ability to take back control of their lives and provides a critical safeguard against those who seek to exploit them.”
Under the proposed legislation, victims of human trafficking would be able to petition the court for an order of protection to help ensure their safety and peace of mind. The measure recognizes the unique vulnerabilities of survivors and aims to strengthen Illinois’ commitment to supporting those affected by the growing human trafficking crisis.
“This bill is about justice and compassion,” added Rep. Sanalitro. “We owe it to human trafficking survivors to give them every possible resource to escape their abusers and rebuild their lives.”
The legislation is now under consideration in the 104th General Assembly.
