Sanalitro Pushes to Protect Night Classes at Illinois Colleges and Universities

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) has introduced HR90 – a resolution urging Illinois public colleges and universities to protect and prioritize night classes and programs. The measure highlights the importance of evening education opportunities for working adults and students with family obligations.

“Many Illinoisans are juggling work, family, and other responsibilities during the day, leaving night classes as their only option to pursue higher education and career advancement,” said Rep. Sanalitro. “These programs are essential for giving all students the chance to achieve their goals, no matter their schedule.”

The resolution emphasizes the need to maintain accessibility for nontraditional and returning students who depend on night classes to earn degrees, gain new skills, and advance in the workforce.

“We must ensure that higher education remains available to everyone, including those who cannot attend classes during regular hours,” added Rep. Sanalitro. “Preserving night programs supports our students, strengthens our workforce, and opens doors to new opportunities.”

The resolution is now under consideration in the 104th General Assembly.
