BLOOMINGDALE, IL – We had a major win for seniors and those in need with the passage of SB3476 – legislation that exempts home-delivered meals from taxes. The change is set to help programs like Meals on Wheels, which has been successfully delivering meals to seniors in need throughout the Chicagoland area and Illinois for decades.
I am proud to have co-sponsored this bill and play a small role in making it more affordable for charitable programs to provide nutritious meals for those who need them the most. With this move, we are ensuring that more seniors and other people dealing with food insecurity from our own communities can have access to healthy food.
Improving the quality of life for our seniors and low-income residents is a continual goal of mine and I think this legislation does just that. Thank you to my fellow lawmakers for their support and to the community willing to make these ideas happen!
