Rep. Sanalitro Introduces 2024 Spring Legislation

Springfield, IL – Today, Illinois State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro announced her series of legislative proposals for the 2024 Spring Session of the Illinois General Assembly. These measures reflect Rep. Sanalitro’s commitment to addressing pressing issues in the state which include anti-human trafficking efforts and long overdue tax reform.

Key Legislative Proposals:

Anti-Human Trafficking Initiatives:

  • HB5469 – Human Trafficking Order of Protection Act: This bill allows victims of human trafficking to obtain orders of protection against human traffickers, granting them an essential defense against their abusers.
  • HB5468 – Affirmative Defense for Trafficking Victims: This legislation would protect victims of human trafficking from being found guilty of prostitution or other crimes human traffickers often force their victims to commit. 

Tax Reforms:

  • HB496 – Reduced Tax Rate on School Supplies: Recognizing the financial burden on families with school aged children, this bill proposes a statewide tax of 1.25% on school supplies greatly easing the cost of education essentials.
  • HB5425 – Senior Citizens Homestead School Levy Exemption: This bill is tailored to support our senior citizens by offering a homestead school levy exemption for seniors who meet specific age, income, and property criteria.
